6th Grade Valentine's Dance

On Valentine's Day the 6th graders had a dance. This was not a free for all kind of affair, it was a completely organized, laid out kind of affair. They learned a bunch of dances that they have been practicing for weeks, (some line dances, waltz, swing.) Then a few days before the dance they signed dance cards so they knew who they would dance with for every song. Everyone dressed up, they decorated the gym and they even had a refreshment table. Emily was really excited for it and wanted me to come watch. It was a lot of fun to be there and I'm glad I went. During one of the waltzes I almost started crying as I watched her, I can't believe how fast she is growing up!

A couple of things that struck me while I was there. One, I was surprised how many of the girls were taller than the boys they were dancing with. Heck, half the kids were taller than me. Emily, of course, did not have that problem. Second it was fun to see that they boys seemed to be pretty into it. They were actually dancing. Maybe 6th grade catches them before they get too cool for stuff like that.
