Family Reunion, Part III

Silver City, ID was a mining town that became a large city. In it's prime there were over 2000 people living there. It had electricity, 2 hotels, an opera house and a newspaper. My mother-in-law, Sonja spent a week there in the summer when she was growing up. Her father, Wilbur Leonard, was born there. His mother owned a souvenir store. The store and several of the Leonard homes are still owned by family members. The Leonards owned and operated a mine and a stamp mill.


It was a lot of fun to walk around the town and to learn about it. There is a souvenir store and the Idaho Hotel is still open and has a restaurant and rents rooms to stay in. We ate lunch at the hotel the last day before we left. We got to go inside the Leonard store. Sonja's brother and cousin are working on restoring it. We also got to go inside the beautiful church.
