I realized that Benjamin is just a couple of months short of being 3 so I decided to bite the bullet and see about potty training him. Tuesday at the store I bought some Thomas the Train underpants (we didn't have a very big selection to chose from.) I started in earnest Wednesday, here is how it has gone.
Wednesday:
Went in the potty twice in the morning.
Pooped in his pull-up when we went to the park after lunch.
Woke up from nap with a dry diaper and went in the potty.
Wet his pants on the kitchen floor when I was getting dinner ready.
(While sitting on the toilet trying to go poop he said to me, "The poop is not coming. Maybe it's out of batteries.)
Thursday:
Went in the potty first thing in the morning.
Wet his pull-up when he was at my friends house.
Wet his pants on the kitchen floor at lunch time just minutes after sitting on the potty and not going.
Woke up with a dry diaper and went in the potty.
Finally went poop in the potty after dinner!!!
Friday:
Woke up with a dry diaper!!
Went in the potty after waking up and then after his bath.
Wet his pants standing in the hall (carpet.)
Went in the potty after lunch.
Pooped in his diaper at nap time.
Wet his pants while playing outside.
Kept his pull-up dry while at McDonald's for dinner.
Went in the potty before bed.
Saturday:
Woke up dry and stayed dry all day, including a couple of hours we were away from home at the kids piano recital and the park. He did go poop in the potty once late in the afternoon after much distress and many tries. He then pooped in his pants when we were outside after dinner. It was a huge mess and all over!!
(To get him to sit on it for a while to try to go poop we sometimes sing songs together. He likes to sing 5 Little Monkeys Swinging in The Tree. He sings, "Teasing Mr. Crocodile, 'You can't poop! You can't poop!'"
Sunday:
Woke up dry and stayed dry all day, including all of church. He tried a couple of times to go potty at church, but was unwilling to go in the big toilets. He also stayed dry though nap. He's needed to go poop all day, but has not done so.
So overall, he's doing pretty good, except there is still an issue with pooping. Hopefully he'll quickly get it figured out!!
