We decided to go on a little getaway over the holiday weekend so we took the kids up just an hour north to go camping at Crystal Hot Springs. It's a place that has natural hot and cold springs so they have multiple pools at different temperatures. I wouldn't care to go there again as the place wasn't kept up very well and the bathroom facilities were especially undesirable, but it was fine for a couple of days camping and the kids had a great time and keep asking when we can go there again. We were gone Sat-Mon. We stopped at the Hill Aerospace Museum on our way up and that was pretty cool and the kids liked it. However, it made me kind of sad as I pondered on what a terrible thing war is. Does that make me unpatriotic? Then we went up to the campsite and got settled and did some swimming.
On Sunday we went out to Spiral Jetty which is this large man-made art installation on a remote part of the Salt Lake. It was cool out there, the kids really enjoyed it and Jonathan thought it was the greatest thing ever. I personally am not completely convinced it was worth the drive out there. We also stopped at the Golden Spike National Historic Monument, as it is on the way to the Spiral Jetty. We then did some more swimming back at the camp that afternoon. Monday we headed home, got cleaned up and rested and then we had a BBQ at the Ericksons and set off some fireworks. It was a fun, inexpensive, low-key weekend and was nice to spend some family time together.
